HONG KONG – "Slumdog Millionaire" director Danny Boyle will chair the competition jury at China's top international film festival in June, leading a panel that also includes actress Andie MacDowell and "Infernal Affairs" director Andrew Lau.
The three will decide the 12th Shanghai International Film Festival's top Jin Jue Award with Swiss director Xavier Koller, Chinese director Huang Jianxin, Japanese actress Komaki Kurihara and South Korean producer Oh Jung-wan, organizers said in a statement on their official Web site seen Monday.
Boyle, who first gained attention with his 1996 comedy "Trainspotting," won a best director Oscar earlier this year for "Slumdog," about an Indian orphan who rises from Mumbai's slums to become champion of the Indian version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire." The rags-to-riches story won seven other Oscars, including best picture.
MacDowell's credits include "Four Weddings and a Funeral," "Sex, Lies and Videotape," "Green Card" and "Groundhog Day." Lau is best known for the 2002 Hong Kong crime thriller "Infernal Affairs," which was adapted by Martin Scorsese into the Oscar-winning film "The Departed."
Organizers also announced that veteran South Korean director Im Kwon-taek will chair the jury for the Asian New Talent Award.
Boyle will also take part in a panel discussion with "The Reader" director Stephen Daldry, while "Mission: Impossible II" director John Woo will discuss the Chinese film industry, organizers said.
The Shanghai festival will take place from June 13 to June 21.
